just got back from our last weekend away in the new caravan and could not help noticing the bloke opposite who had a round electric grill/barbecue couldnt quite see properly and didnt like invading his privacy but he was cooking brekkie on a round electric grill it had a flat griddle area that he was cooking fried eggs on and a like a normal part (george Foreman ) with sausages etc on it looked very good anyone got one and where from
I remember seeing them on sale a few years ago, but not recently. Others may know if anywhere still sells them. I have used a friends and found that the cooking area wasn't huge and it wasn't as stable as I would have liked. It was on a pedestal with a round base, but the single central pole meant that the top cooking area wobbled a bit. It depends how many you're cooking for - for a couple it's probably fine, but we were cooking for a small tribe.
When we tried to buy something similar I noticed that our local Comet store (I don't like Comet but they were right over the road from us) had a large George Foreman grill which came with a very sturdy stand. We've used that and found that it has several advantages:
1. It has a timer so when you've had a few beers the cooking doesn't end up cremated.
2. It cooks both sides at once which saves poking around with a stick.
3. It is better at draining fat and grease away.
4. It has a larger cooking area
5. It is totally stable.
Ours uses 1600w which is fine on a decent hook up.
Having said all that - the kids have grown up and we've just had our first trip on our own and the grill was too big. A couple of burgers and sossies looked a bit sad sat in the middle of it.
We've used charcoal and gas but now we use electric and haven't looked back.
It's quicker and safer and I don't thing the food tastes any different. No longer does rain stop bbq as its perfectly safe to use in the awning.
We use a table top electric griddle. They are readily available throughout Europe. The only time I will get the cadac out now is when we are rallying and there is no EHU.
My son in law swears by his George Foreman, it has a flat area for eggs etc and a large griddle area for bacon, sausage even steak. His has a timer as well. I have the gas version and wouldn't swop it for the world.

The direct George Foreman website often has good deals on their grills, I was looking at the compatible pizza one with removable plates and we have an induction hob for the rest of the time.
We have the George Foreman Electric BBQ and its a god send when cooking breakfast for 5 people I can tell you and means the caravan doesn't have too many cooks if you know what I mean... Only one problem we've found, one site we used prohibited the use of Electric Grills but everywhere else have been fine..

Slightly off topic, but can anyone suggest a good electric grill / mini oven that only draws 5 amps max?
Would love to get an electric grill of some sort as we do not have an oven in our caravan but all the ones I find have a 13amp fuse and the rating suggests they draw more than 6amps. Until we get our caravan re-wired the maximum we can draw from any one socket is 5amps.
