When we was at Truckfest a few year's back we bought a 240v invertor, it was a sterling model about 300watts i think, did the job well enough i must say.
I bought a 150w inverter to power a 65w laptop and it was useless, unless the battery was already fully charged. Also, as Grampian91 says, they use (and waste) a lot of power. I bought one of these CLICK and it is so much better.
You can get universal 12v phone chargers from most £1 shops.
