Anyone use these on their awning? I got the hump last time trying to whack my rock pegs into very hard ground.
My mate was laughing at me whilst he produced his cordless drill and zapped his in the ground very quickly!
If you use these, do you find a 12v drill is man enough?
------------- Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!
i have plastic and metal screw in pegs the plastic work great in grass and the metal are great in very hard ground or hard standing, a 12 volt should be OK mine's 18 volt and winds me legs down 30 pegs on awning 20+ on windbreak and 2 on sat dish stand get them e-bay they are cheaper hope this helps Andy
After the trauma of trying to peg out (and extract again) at Cherry Hinton I had a hissy fit and insisted to the OH that we invest in some screw in pegs. We now have both plastic and metal screw-in pegs but have found the plastic a bit of a waste of time. We also use an 18v cordless drill (with optional hammer action) and so far it hasn't let us down.
Madtrucker was intersted to see your comment about these working on hardstandings. We've just booked our first stay on a hardstanding and was wondering whether we needed to invest in rock pegs (the thought of getting those blighters out fills me with dread) - I'm guessing in your opinion you would say no?
I tend to use rock pegs most of the time these days, hit in with a small lump hammer. (Sometimes use the red plastic ones too.) I have some screw in pegs (plastic sort), but to be honest, I find them a bit of a fiddle and now keep them just for 'emergencies'. One very firm pull with the peg extractor and the begs always come out. Never had a real problem.
I tend to use them all the time now for the awning. If you want a cheaper version look at the Toolstation website. Buy the Coach Screw ( eg part no 14423 ) and washers. If you want to go really upmarket buy a pack of rubber "O" rings to hold washers in place.
I use an 18v Drill but 12v will certainly do all the pegs you need for an awning and wind down the steadies.
