I've recently bought a couple of great camping recipe books, although we tend to do bbq's, take aways and salady bits with meats & cheese. We try to find a nice bakers near to where we camp or take bread from our local bakers. A couple of weeks ago there was a thread on here about cooking whilst on camp, several suggested baking potatoes and reheating on a bbq wrapped in foil and serve with the usual fillings.
Why bother cooking we have a good breakfast, then a sarnie for lunch then find a pub or good restaurant, last resort a good take-away, when there are just the two of you this is not much more expensive that buying then cooking, also sopmeone else does the washing-up. we are on holoday after all is said & done.
Chilli Friday night or curry, sausage in the morning or a toastey with ham cheese and onion out for tea to a family pub, followed by a cock breakfast Sunday and back home job done. Tacking a pan full of something the first night works really well for us, by the time you have set up there's nothing better than a few beers and a nice hot meal.
Not much more to add but I have always made up a menu for the week/weekend. When we were camping I knew exactly what to buy for each day and now that we are caravanning I don't have to go shopping just as much.
It really helps cos especially when we camped we would end up spending quite a lot on snacks etc
I always bring something from home for the first night that just needs re-heating up in a pot (camping) oven (caravan) and the next night I have brought something made at home but frozen to last.
