My cobb melted last weekend when we were away camping.I purchased this about 5 years ago using the ukcs discount and have only used it approx 30 times. I have always followed the instructions and have cleaned it each time before use, but on this occasion cooking chicken pieces it melted on the outside and the inside plastic insulating case found not to be inplace. I cannot think why it has happened. I have sent to cobb international an e-mail but have not had a reply as yet.
I have noticed the outside plastic casing has since been changed to metal type, was this due to problems of melting casing ?
Has this happened to anyone else with the older model?
The cobb cooks fantastic and i will be missing it for the next trip but hey ho
Mine has plastic casing and it gets used loads. Not had any problems yet.
That's not very helpful is it. Sorry!

The plastic ones did sometimes melt I think, that's why they changed them to metal ones. Would have thought a new metal body would fit the rest of your still intact cobb.
Update, just had e-mail from Cobb international , stating he will pass my information onto the UK Distributors to contact me with view of examaining the old cobb or better still upgrading to New Cobb to be discussed. At least they have now responded.
Graham at Cobb UK, where you actually purchased the Cobb from (as you used the UKCS offer) , is excellent with his customer service and if you had emailed them initially, as the retailer, I am sure you would have heard very quickly
Had Great Customer Service From Graham at Cobb UK Thanks very much for your Help and assistance. I sent him some photos here is the result.
From the pictures I can see that your Cobb has been well looked after.
Looking at the pictures it would seem to me that the grommets were certainly not the cause of the problem.
It looks like at some stage the Cobb was dropped (not sufficiently to cause any major damage) but enough to cause the inner lining to come unclipped form the base.
Unknowingly I believe that you then started to cook with the inner base actually resting on the black outer which has caused the damage. The fact that you were only using about 7 briquettes would support this as the damage to the base is not excessive.
So Jake, have you dropped the Cobb and caused the lining to come unclipped......or is that Cobb UK's way of saying it's not a manufacturing defect and you'll have to buy another? Should the inner lining have come unclipped that easily?
The Base can be replaced with the new style one it is compatible.
I have 2 options to repair or replace. And i do not recall dropping the Cobb or knocking it but it has travelled in trailer, so hey ho had some good use and its now 5 years old.
Hi i had a problem with mine. The little pins i the base snapped off so i emailed Graham and had a replacement base one of the new metal ones and its great.
There are supposed to be 3 gromets on the edge of the base on both models are you sure you have not lost these as the space is important.
