Sounds like there's something wrong there somewhere. Do you have a manual?

However, a few things to take into account:
The weather has been very warm, it makes the fridge work very hard. Opening it all the time (as you do) lets in the very warm air, making it work even harder. If someone is forever in there after (for eg., cold drinks) use a coolbox/bag for keeping beer etc, cool or just put underneath the 'van in a bucket of water.

Using electric or gas? If you have been using electric, try the gas side, and just see if it works better on that. Or vice-versa. It will let you know if you need a new heating element or not.

Get a nozzle on your hoover and hoover out at the back, bottom and sides. If poss, take off the outside vent cover and hoover in there, being very careful if there are electric wires at the back. Mine didn't work at all on gas, did this and it now works on gas and better on electric too. Assume there was a pice of debris blocking the 'air in' bit which has now been removed.

Cool down the fridge before you put stuff in. The fridge then only has to maintain the temp, rather than reach it. With mine on electric, it takes 4 hours from ambient temp to cold if I don't cool first, 3 hours on gas. If you have freezer blocks, pack them in along with your food, and freeze anything you don't need today/tomorrow so that it can also be in there cooling the fridge down.

Lastly, some fridges need absolutely level to function properly, which is a bit of a nusciance! If your fridge wasn't level when on site, this could be a reason it's not working properly. I suspect this is the reason it only started working on the last day. Could be going in and out for a few days just levelled the van enough for it to work!

Good luck with sorting it out.

When I had a caravan I used to level it with a sprit level in the fridge ice box. At home the 'van was always connected to 240v and the fridge switched to that. That meant we had an extra fridge at home and when using the 'van our fridge was always cold.

I've got the fridge level(well as good as I can)and I have tried gas/240v and they are both naff, I've tried cooling the fridge days before leaving but again its still not cold enough. I haven't tried packing the fridge out with ice blocks but I will give it a go, and I will try giving the back a clean. Can the thermostat be replaced? I've also got a problem with the water pump not working but I will post another question on that in a bit. Thanks for your help. This site is cracking.
