Hi, I have seen a few references on this site to people having awnings extended to fit new vans rather than have to buy a new one. Has anyone any experience of doing this. I have just traded in my bailey ranger 500/5 for an olympus 504, got a very good deal for the trade in, but getting a bit fed up at the thought of having to awning and just looking at alternatives. The 'canvas repair centre' has positive reviews. Any comments or ideas please.
My awning is going to them next week and should be back by mid November. Apparently they alter the geometry at the back of the awning and leave the front alone, but an adjustment of 1 metre is the maximum you can do, apparently any bigger adjustment and it may cause wrinkling or slack areas in the roof section.
We are going for it because if it works and the work is as good as their reputation suggests then for less than £200 I have a usable awning again. If it is no good then I will just have to take it on the chin and buy a new one anyway.
As I am a Tyke with a Scottish mother (I had all the generosity I had beaten out of me) I can only say "HOW MUCH"!!!!!!
Put the words 'Awning', Tent' and 'Leads' into Google and you will come up with a firm in Hull called (from memory) The East Yorkshire Tent and Awning Repairers in Leads Road, Hull.
They have increased/decreased my 2001 Ventura Awning on four occasions to my complete satisfaction and never charged me anywhere near £100 on each occasion.
Give them a call. You won't be sorry.
