a friend yesterday told me of a bad smell in his van.Using his nose it seems to be coming from the fridge,hes checked for leaks at sink etc , the smell is like a damp cloth gone bad could it be leakink coolant ??

If its an ammonia smell it will be leaking coolant & new fridge time.

If it stinks like a wet cloth gone bad it sounds like your friend has left the fridge door shut? Clean fridge out then wipe down with a mixture of warm water and bicarbonate of soda to get rid of the pong, then leave door catch on the slightly open setting to let air circulate.

I also leave a little pot of bicarbonate of soda in my fridge and leave the door on the open setting. I really noticed the difference in a few days when I didn't leave the bicarb in there.

I left my fridge switched off with door closed for almost 2 weeks recently in between trips by mistake and the mould and smell had just started ! Panic stations ! Cleaned it and left the door open for a bit and it was fine - no staining. Phew !

i always cut a lemon in half and put on fridge shelf but leave door open when leaving van to let the air circulate

Check if it has a drain hole inside the fridge.If it does clean the pipe running from it to its pot/collector as you can get little pieces of food in it hence the smells.

Also, the water (condensation) that ends up in the collector/reservoir thing can go rancid and turn into a stinking gelatinous mess. Could be that.

I had the same sort of smell, it turned out to be the sink, water trapped in the waste pipes gave off the smell. It took me weeks to find the problem. now i flush it every time i have got home with bleach, just a cup full of water with some bleach in the water stopps the smell ok.
Leaving the plug in the sink will work as well.

I thot floppy useing bleach and i take it you meant house hold bleach,would make the plastic pipes britle ?

clean with a strong solution of FENDOX and water i use it all time and never had a problem.if they had spilt milk near the fridge then its a new carpet required.as said if the sink is over the fridge it could well be the drain.just pour in strong bleach and put the plug in.
