Hi and welcome Wilkos do a U.F.O L.E.D light that many many people use in their tents and rave about them i dont have one because our wilkos never have any in stock
Its all about how light you want it the list goes on and on really all down to your own choice
For the last couple of years we have been using a P.L.S. Awning light, it's 1.2m in length and about an inch in diameter, and contains 150 led's so needless to say it lights up the whole of our Biscaya 370 with ease, runs of EHU or 12volt and cost £24.95 from Cambells in Preston.
The Wilkinsons/ASDA UFOs are the ones I'd recommend - at Wilkos they are £1 cheaper!
Be aware that not all UFOs are the same: I bought one from a cheap shop and the LEDs were not nearly as bright as the Wilinson/ASDA ones.
Regarding the LED inspection lights, I would not bother myself. I bought one from ASDA last year. It is very bright but because they are on a flat plane they creat something of a spotlight beam of light and don't disperse the light over an area very well at all. The UFOs do manage to spread out the light because the LEDs are on a curved plane.
We have just had a walk round Go Outdoors and were looking at remote control lights great idea i thought until i touched the remote and every light on display switched on or off!! great if your camped next door to one when someone shouts "who turned the light off!"
With regards the LED output from the Wilkinsons 48 LED models, I have noticed they are not 'Intensity Matched'.
I adapted 3 of them to work off 12 volts from my car battery.
I tested them with a variable voltage source, and noticed some LED's are noticeably less bright at lower voltage.
I'm tempted to purchase more of them, and adapt them with blocks of matched LED's.
When I opened them up I found poor quality soldering, as well as poor manufacture. Thankfully I have the knowledge and skills to correct them.
Paul, you're tempting providence visiting such places as Go Outdoors.
I hope the carpets didn't get blown away last weekend, glad you had good outcome after losing your Skandia.
I have a remote control device I'm considering adapting for light control, it does have a number of codes to avoid interfering with other users. LOL
We're not finished tenting this year, my wife is happy to continue, and later this month we're looking to get away (weather permitting) for a long weekend.
The LED lights will come in handy again due to earlier sunsets.
Regards James
------------- In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.
James the carpets will fit just snug in our new to us sunncamp which we are trying out on the 28th of this month or the first time cant wait
Just made me chuckle as one button was turning ALL the lights on and off dont know what the range of the remote is but with my sence of humour ide be walking round camp trying it out
And i did have to promise to eave the wallet at home before being allowed to even walk through Go's doors
White solar powered fairy lights are really good for low level lighting, just thread them around the inside of the tent and they give adequate lighting, back them up with a couple of ufo lights and Bob's your dads brother
