What would you recommend as a good camping light? We camp without electric so would have to be battery or LED.
I know this might seem like a really basic topic but we've bought 3 in the past year and all of them have died in a really short space of time - i should learn not to buy cheap ones!
The UFO LED lights from Wilkinsons proved very popular last year. We don't bother with other lights now apart from head torches, just take a spare set of charged AA batteries with us, but they last over a week on one set. They have a loop on the back and magnets for attaching. Someone even put one on a wine bottle as a table lamp/uplighter.
We used to have a Coleman rechargeable (car)lantern that didnt last very long, was handy when it worked as it was remote control operated. We then messed about with torches for a while but this year I've bought 2 of the UFO's that Speedcamp linked to.
UFOs, wind up torches, oil hurrican lamps and Campingaz Lumogaz lanterns, rechargable LED wand lights, battery powered LED lanterns - I don't take them all with me on every trip but I like to have a choice!!
I just prefer my old hurricane lamp, cheap as chips to buy, cheap to run, no issues of getting fuel, and no mantles to burn out, (wick off ebay £2 a meter, and the lamp only needs 20cm of wick max)
Other than that i take my rechargeable spot lamp for walking to the loo's,

Hi.If you wait a while Aldi does a ufo type light and they are like the ones that kampa sell but for a good few quid less.just keep an eye out at Aldi`s deals.cheers.Alex
Im coming round to the idea of LEDs as the seem smaller and lighter - so we can hang them around the text without us worrying the tent it going to collapse lol!
Seen some on Amazon for £1.75 each so i might et a load of those. I like having a few light around :-)
I dont know if you want to use gas, but dependant on how big your tent is, it's a good option. The thing I find with the LED lights are they are great for the bedroom pods, but for the living area the light is a bit "cold" and it can be difficult to read in it (perhaps thats just me though).
The camping gaz lights are great in a BIG tent, but a bit dodgy to use in a small tent incase they get knocked over. Our Norfolk lake is big enough that we use 2 of them - one in the porch area and the other in the main living area. Its a nice warm table lamp glow and it also has the bonus of producing a bit of heat - great if you dont have a fan heater. Just make sure you turn them off properly when not using them. They are designed specifically for campers, so when used with common sense and awareness of the dangers of misuse, you should have years of safe and efficient use.
Another light we use in our smaller tents is the Gelert "capsule" light.
Its leds but somehow gives a warmer glow than the UFO lights.
They vary in price, but you can pick them up from around £3 to £7 dependent on where you get it.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
We use UFOs and head torches (the kids have their own glow in the dark LED torches, which they love!)
We put a small UFO in the kid's pod and use a couple of bigger ones in the main part of the tent (although we find it hard to read by these, so we tend to turn them off and use head torches instead.
Hurricane lamps look good for outside, and I would really love a coleman duelfuel lantern...
Hi like the above we use the UFO lights we got 2 a few years back from pound shop hahaha they are great i have one of them in my little boys play house as a light and its great!! on decent batteries they do last all summer for what we use them we always take spare batteries though just incase !!! love mine wouldnt be without them. The kids have torches aswell its part of their camping fun gonna get them head torches this year though i think theyll love them...
