Good news folks, Decathlon are re introducing the BASE SECONDS FULL c. March 18th.
I was in decathlon Sheffield on Saturday to collect a Base Seconds 4.1, to go with the Base Seconds Full.
If I'd relied on the description on-line and the subsequent enquiry about the fact there is NO DOOR from the sleeping area to the main tent, I may not have bought it. What they fail to point out , or show in any of the photographs is the fact that THERE IS A DOOR to an INNER TENT which is not mentioned anywhere in the description. So you CAN keep the bugs out.
The 4.1 has a HUGE bedroom space which you cannot appreciate unless you see the tent erected.
The staff at the Sheffield store are great; they showed us the tent and HOW to take it down which can be tricky, they also shoed us the new generation pop-up with the 'hangover'proof decamp mechanism...its all done with e chord...very clever.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. You thought there wasn't a doorway on the inner tent of the 4.1?
If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it? I considered getting one when I was in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago and it was £139.99, but looks like it has gone up on the website now.

If they ever do the 4.1 with two doors to the outside I'll be there like a shot.
I currently use a Base Seconds or a Base Seconds Full (we have both for different needs) as an awning alongside my van.
The 4.1 would be ideal for me if only it had a door to the side and a door to the front (ala the base)
But it doesn't :(
Still, I'm passing Manchester Decathlon on Friday so might just go nosey..
I totally agree, more doors, in fact a 3 door option on each side of the 4.1 would be ideal, although there may be a very good reson they didn't do it.
I also think the guys are flimsy and could be a more robust. Ditto the pegs..but we take a stash just in case it's rocky (as it was in La Clusaz, Rhone Alps)
We will be using the Base Seconds full as a mountain bike garage, rather than putting them back in the car and somewhere to store the kitchen/cooker, without invading lounging space.
The original idea of a 'chuck up' was for a one night stop option. The pop up was a bit small, so I bought the base. Last year we pitched just the base......then I got to thinking, like the headroom and the space, so got the 4.1.
I must stop buying tents,my husband is going ape because we have only used the Hartford XL once, but it's a pain to pitch...gorgeous tent, lots of space BUT.
Funniest thing I saw was in Savigny Le Beaune (Premier Pres). We pitched and went straight to the local supermarche. When we got back there was couple erecting a 2 bases......They had a huge row. The next morning the 2 bases were separately erected on the same pitch. Not funny to laugh at other misfortune but it was amusing. We usually head for Savigny if going to the Alps or further South, so tempers can be fraught after a 5 hour drive.
They probably won't have the new BASE SECONDS FULL yet, the chaps in Sheffield mentioned the 18th March.

I can highly recommend Chatel in the Porte du Soleil, although you will need full suspension and body armour. The runs are acessed by the ski lifts......mainly blues and green along the tops, and blacks to get back to Plaine Dranse.
There is only ONE campsite in Chatel, it is superb.. L'Oustalet. There is a bus, with MTB racks on, which is FREE and goes up to the ski area every 1/2 hour.
Also try La Clusaz, this is good from MTB and road....amazing area. Expensive but worth the experience.
