Very tempted to buy a Cobb with all the positive reviews it had here - is there any consensus on the best 'combo' to buy - with or without extension piece, rack, wok, etc..? A full house nearly doubles the price! And is there a discount through this site- I couldn't see one...
There used to be a discount. Not sure whether there still is. I'm sure one of the site's moderators will clarify. But you could always contact COBB directly and you may get lucky!
You don't have to use the Cobb brand accessories - just find a wok/pan/whatever that fit in or on the Cobb and you're away. I keep mentioning the Hairy Bikers as Cobb experts but if you see any of their programs you'll see them with saucepans etc just sitting over the fire basket. The extension ring is useful if you're wanting to roast big chickens, etc but you don't need it for smaller pieces of meat. You will need a rack though, otherwise you'll burn it.
The main benefit of the Cobb accessories though is that they all fit in the Cobb bag (bit of a krypton factor challenge at first but they do go in!)
Definitely not a cheap bit of kit but I for one wouldn't be without mine.

The griddle is different from the standard grill plate (see link in previous post) but you don't need it to BBQ. If all you're planning on doing is BBQs then you'll be fine with the basic kit. Seriously consider the rack too though as then you'll be able to do roasts/baked potatoes. You can always add other bits later, which is what I did. I managed for years with just the basic set-up but have now added all the extras as I'm trying to replace all other means of cooking with it.
