I am probably being a bit dense- but help needed from clearer thinking tarp experts! I have been thinking about getting a tarp since last years rainfest - am off camping in france this year so it will be hot and sunny
But most of the time we camp in the uk so waterproofing important - mainly for cooking under - like the old fashioned army style to look at but far too heavy/bulky -
have been looking at the decathlon but looks a bit small to set up as angled cooking shelter - then found tatonka tc - but 3 times the price but would it be better to cook under ? willing to pay if more fit for purpose..? or am I missing something ...help
We have the outwell cotton tarp and it is fantastic!
Very large so can easily fit table, chairs etc under it. Used it in Weymouth last summer and kept us and friends dry underneath. Also bought some more poles and attached tarp to front of tent allowing more room under it.
ooh two more options - have they got lots of holes/fixing points so you can lay them out in different ways (sure there is a better way of putting that!)
was near Weymouth last year as well hence need for waterproofing - how was it in the wind?
Obelink one - does it dry quickly? my concern is packing up wet heavy tarp - have limited garden space to dry things...
Outwell one was fine in the wind, well tested in Weymouth!
Yes there are lots of fixing points as far as I remember. I think we also sewed the label over, making a tube, half way along one side to gain another point.
I'll 2d the Obelink one. Great piece of kit.
If memory serves it has holes at each corner, holes half way along each side and holes halfway between these and the corner ones so ..... 16 in total.
With regards drying, it will be dry long before your tent is, no worries there.
Another thumbs up for the outwell pollycotton tarp here,we were pitched right on the coast in cornwall last year and it stood up to the gusty winds and rain without any problems at all,not only that but they are cooler to sit under in the sun unlike a polyester where you will roast under,i also added 3 extra upright poles to the front of tarp using 2 of the corner eyelets in the tarp and a single clingon attached in the center, used it as an extra canopy for the tent, see profile pic below
the Obelink tarp has holes in each corner and holes half way along each side. it is very versatile and can be used in many ways. we mainly use it as a sun shade but it was used in february as shelter from the rain.
