I say it's much cheaper to run halogens. Approximately the same efficiency as LEDs (do the research don't believe the hype) and MUCH cheaper. Fluorescents are much cheaper still.

The combination of the two types are ideal. A 'searchlight' for emergencies and an LED torch for everyday (shouldn't that be everynight?) use. Any torch maniacs out there will enjoy this site: Torches
Don't miss the Megaray 175 watt, 7.5 million candle power, fan cooled Short Arc Xenon rechageable. It's a military job and so unique I can't find a price for it MegaRay
Hi there, i've been able to have a good look on that site Torches and a most of them are 1 watt luxeon star LED's... the rest are over priced (last years prices) the torches are fantastic but the prices are out of this world....!!!! well too expensive, the 1 & 5 watt luxeon star torches in maplin are a less than half that price of that site and you may have to pay VAT + import duty etc on top of the shown price... The price of LUXEON STAR LED's has come down lots in the last six months..!!! shop around in the uk first maplin is a good start and easy to find there shops.......
this is a 1 watt luxeon star torch i bought one about 2 months ago.... fantastic bit o kit..
I collect LED torches..... I might even have a fetish for um lol... i do have quite a lot, from key ring types to the small hand held to the 4D cell Maglight conversion i got from the USA (not cheap but v rare)
LED's are the future........

Hmmm I disagree, but you have got very interested in this.... are we talking torches here, as in hand torches? because i've yet to see a halogen torch run for an hour or more,!!! some LED's run for hours & hours or even days on a few AA, or D cell bateries... Most burn time iv'e seen, with halogen is about 30 minutes or an hour, and use heavy batteries at high cost... Also never seen a flourescent torch with a beam or spot either, only a lantern type wich was low output and ate batteries...
Or are we talking about mains lighting? if so then HPS (high pressure sodium) is one of the most efficient lighting available..
Most plant growers will tell you that lol....
I would like you to show me the info you have or the web page etc.... that would be nice..

We picked up a couple of these high candle power ;ights when they were on offer with petrol. Great light - although not taken them camping they'll be ideal for erecting the tent in the dark - epecially as the have a handle/stand that means the beam is semi directional. Wouldn't use them for general lighting all the time though - stick to the camping lights for that. OH used when working in the loft over Christmas. I keep one of mine - and its charger in the car - means I've always got a torch there.
I don`t think you need a searchlight for night trips to the loo....Ikea do brightly coloured plastic hand torches for 50p that run for ages on two D-cells. One for each member of the family, and who cares if you lose them? The ones that Hubby and I used lasted an entire season on two batteries...the kids went through more, of course, when playing.
Gas lamp for sitting outside tent, basic battery light you can hang up inside tent for getting changed etc. Mine cost a couple of quid in Asda ten years ago, runs of 4 D-cells and once again, lasts for ages. Who needs more?
If you need to put a tent up in the dark (bad planning that...) then car headlights would be best. If the neighbours moan ask them to lend a hand so it goes up faster, no?
