Just returned from our first camping trip in the yorkshire dales.Had a lovely if not slightly cold time in the tent.My only concern was our gas lantern which had been working fine, then on the last evening flames came out from, the connection between the lantern and the refill bottle, dont have much confidence in it now, especially with young children.I am wondering if there are any decent battery windup or solar powered lanterns on the market, dont do electric hook up at the moment.

I've always had a hit and miss experience with gas lanterns and whilst at the outdoor leisure show at the NEC came across this on the yeomans stand - incredibly bright and quite versatile as it can be hung upside down like a normal lightbuld or used as a lantern. 2 power modes. runs on 3 D batteries so not lightweight.

Try this. Very bright and one charge lasts me several weekends. You charge it via mains or car charger.

We have EHU and usually take a small strip light, but for the awning we take a UFO light which takes 3xAA batteries and is surprisingly bright. It has 3 intensity settings and i'm pretty sure it was less than a fiver in ASDA.

I have a variety of wind up, recharagbel and battery powered lights and lanterns.

The best ones are the UFO lights and a rechargable LED strip light.

Sorry, probably should say, that image is from here, but as I said before, I picked ours up in ASDA - i'm sure most supermarkets and DIY stores will sell them.

I have bought a round UFO light for camping in Tesco today and it was only £4! Does anyone know how long the batteries generally last in these types of lights please?

Another vote for UFO led lights batteries last for ages. The 60 led ones are the brightest
