Been using two "ThermaRest DreamTime XL's" for our fortnight campings, this last couple of years, they fasten together with there embedded connecting straps, to form a QueenSize bed, the "DreamTime" is more of a sleep system, than just a SiM, as the matt comes with a thick ortho foam insert which is on top of the SiM, the whole unit is encased in a zip on fleece cover, which has a tough vinyl underside, which prevents the matt slipping and also acts as a protector.
We added a fitted heavy cotton QueenSize sheet,it makes for an uber comfortable bed, we don't use sleeping bags, just a cotton over sheet, although we do have a cheapy Netto duvet, for when it gets chilly.
Downsides to the "DeamTime XL's" are huge pack size, and cost to match, £119 each when we got ours back in 2008.
I think I'm going to need to buy some fleece and copy you for the covers, they're fab :) My kids only have roll mats but I can still make them covers I reckon. Need to ponder it...
