I went to Yeomans today and didn't spend any money at all!
I was looking at SIMs though and still can't understand how they can be more comfortable than airbeds.
Being of ample proportions, I'd be worried about hips and shoulders getting achey after being in contact with the ground!
Are they really that great or should I stick to the airbed? I'm more than happy with it, but if they are warmer, it would really cut down on the amount of insulation we have to take with us (thus saving room for more gadgets!)
Ive tried quite a few different SIMs and never found them very comfortable also tried air beds and camp beds with no success I now use a "bedchair" and I find it very comfortable

Did you try a SIM? They are imo more comfortable than airbeds and I don't think that there is any dispute that they are warmer ar you are sleeping on foam and not on a block of cold air.
If they didn't let you try one then go to another retailer.
we went from rubber canvas boxed airbed to 5cm SIMs - it was warmer and less clamy but the support wasnt really there for my (princess and the pea like) wife. Camp beds had never worked for us
we then went to 10cm SIM and gave the kids the 5cm ones, now everyone is happy. The thick ones let you tune the support and the foam inards seem to make it more mattress like. Absolutely would not go back - if only they werent so darned slippy. Fwiw I am 12st
Piglet, I didn't ask to be honest, they had two there which were sealed in their plastic wrapping, so it didn't even cross my mind to ask. It would have been nice to try and I was in there on my own (it's a small garden centre outlet), so it wouldn't have even seemed embarrassing!
I find SIMs much more comfortable than airbeds, they don't roll and wobble in the same way! Go for a thick one, 7 cm +. I think my old alpkit one is 5cm but that's wonderful compared to the comfort airbeds we used to have.
Well, i've put a hold on spending for a while now, but I think if I go looking again then I will go to a bigger store who are more likely to have one unpacked and available to try.

Well done for not buying! Sleeping equipment is so much a matter of personal preference its not really enough to listen to what others say and I would echo trying out a SIM if you can. I love both my airbed and campbed and wasnt all that impressed when I borrowed a friends SIM - but that doesnt mean it wont be right for you.
I do accept they are probably warmer, and the combined space and weight of our airbeds plus fleecy covers does add up.
