Hello campers,

For my school in Holland I'm investigating if the English market is suitable for the export of camping equipment.

My commisioner, CEO of the company Human Comfort, which is a company that produces and sales high end camping equipment, is interested in other countries to sell his products to.

Now, I have the following questions for you expert campers :)

- What are the biggest specialized camping equipment stores in England?

- What are the biggest/best known brands in the camping equipment branche?

I posted this topic yesterday but that topic wasn't clear at all.

Thanks in advance!

John.

First this stuff is already on sale in the UK: here

Looking at the price points and type of gear, I think he needs to look at the following retailers:

Yeomans - the largest camping specialist
Cotswold Outdoor - more specialist clothing and sleeping stuff
Blacks / Millets - similar but have had significant business difficulties in recent times

Your definition of high end is interesting, looking at the goods shown in the website (although not extensive) I would say they are middle market, for comfortable campers - not adventurer type of products.

Biggest brands depends on the size and scale of products. If the tenting is 2 to 4 man stuff then Vango, Gelert, Coleman.

By the way if you don't like the answers you are getting, you need to qualify your questions further, yesterdays first effort was so non-specific you will get answers about all possible retail outlets. You really need to specify, or link to the product line with pricing, people will then understand what is proposed to be sold. then they can suggest which retailers sell that type of camping equipment.

Another Dutch retailer already sells over here through THIS Website, although the carriage charges from the Netherlands can be expensive.

Your company website here? As usual with camping equipment suppliers in Holland, the prices for accessories are considerably higher than in the UK. You have a canvas tarp for 99€. That sort of thing is available for far less in UK. The same battery lanterns are cheaper here.

Your SIMs & mattress toppers(your main products, I guess) are also very expensive. On this forum, Dutch tents & quailty & price of same is often discussed.

Many of us camp in France & meet & speak to Dutch campers. We admire their 2000€ tents but there is no way most of us would pay that much for a tent. The Dutch are the only campers in Europe who seem willing to invest so much money in their equipment.

If your company wants to seriously penetrate the UK camping market your prices need to be much more competitive than Holland, but certainly the market is there.
