Just wondering if people use all electric stuff or all gas?
Im thinking that if i bought all electric stuff it would save on buying gas all the time (with the only downside i have to have an electric pitch) or should i buy all gas stuff with battery powered lantern and save on the extra fees an electric pitch commands?
If you're paying for an unmetered hookup anyway I suppose it would be more economical to use a low wattage kettle/heater/hotplate/fridge etc., though only one at a time, generally, but gas means you aren't restricted to EHU pitches and a (small) stove is handy for off-site picnics.
Until two winters ago I didn't have EHU and of course used gas. After getting EHU, mainly for a heater, I then started looking for other electrical appliances which would make camping more comfortable. I have electric lights, mini fridge, heater, a small radio CD player, electric kettle, electric airbed pump and yesterday I splashed out on a Tesco toaster for £4.95 (now I'm a real glamper!)
However, I still carry the same gear that I had before EHU...i.e a gas suitcase cooker, battery lanterns and torches, battery airbed pump (in case the electric one breaks down) ordinary kettle etc. I haven't done it deliberately it's just that EHU is 'extra' to my normal camping rather than in place of, and should there be a power cut on site I will still survive.
I am finding though, that I probably would not go camping, except in mid summer when the nights are warm, on anything other then an EHU pitch which does limit the choices a little.
We initially bought all our setup for gas and battery/rechargeable lighting. I did not intend on buying EHU cables etc, however a friend gave us their EHU cable and sockets. We have now splashed out £19 for a kettle/toaster/heater but I would prob still only use electric on early/late season. But it is nice to be set up for either :)
All electric for us except for battery lights and a Cadac gas bbq oops guess that makes us both

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
I cook on gas and also carry a gas lantern and small kettle just in case there is a problem with the EHU on site. It has paid off several times over the years.
A bit of both for us...we use gas for cooking (2 burner stove/grill and a suitcase stove) and have a gas lamp.
We take EHU too for recharging our pump/lamp/phones/nintendo ds etc, for the electric plug in lights and for my iphone dock so we can listen to music (very quietly lol)

2013
March - Pooley Bridge (Pod booked!)
May - Spiers House, Pickering
June - La Garangeoire, Vendee, France
Aug - The Cotswolds?
I've only just got ehu but space is a huge premium so when I go for 2 weeks to Cornwall I probably will be reckless and will not take a gas cooker as back up - I just don't have the space and one tiddly cooker isn't going to be a huge help for cooking for 5 people. If the electrics do happen to go off then we'll have to eat out/change of plan to something cold/use a bbq/cadge off a neighbour's gas! My lights etc are a mix of battery as well as electric and I can live without a kettle/toaster if I really need to. If the electrics do go down then I doubt it would be long-term, and if it is then oh well.
