Just joined and first of many probably stupid questions, so please bear with me
Am I right in thinking the hook ups are at certain points around the site and we then need a lead to feed from that to our tent? How long on average would the lead need to be? and can you recommend any?
Most sites have electric hook up (EHU) pitches and non-EHU pitches. You can expect to pay £2 - £3 extra per night for an EHU pitch. An EHU pitch means that within a short distance of the pitch there will be a pillar into which you can plug an EHU cable.
Most purpose made EHU leads have at least 20 metres of cable which under normal circumstances is plenty long enough. Some supply a 25 metre cable. Campsites which require longer cables than that will normally tell you in their literature and quite often they will lend or hire you an extension lead if necessary.
Hope this helps to begin with. I am sure you will have lots more questions about EHU
Make sure you buy a decent one not the cheap and cheerful type available on Ebay

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Oh and you need to be aware that there are restrictions on how much power you can use without tripping the electrics. It will tell you on the campsites electric box whether it is a 10 or 16am supply so you need to make sure you dont go over that.
To work out the amps divide the wattage of the electrical appliance, which will be printed on it somewhere, by 230. So if you are using a 2000w fan heater thats 9 amps.
There is loads of useful info on here regarding EHU.
