thinking about getting a cadac bbq for caravan and i see you can run them off 500g gas canister instead of a bottle - any thoughts? these small gas hobs that run off canisters are brilliant but are they man enough for a bbq? France next week - YES!!!!!!!!

Run mine off a 6.5 calor lite bottle.  Lasts longer - probably cheaper in the long run.

We also run one on LPG and one on cannisters havent noticed any difference in heat output. Cannisters in Argos are around £16 for 4 = 2kg so its more expencive than a bottled gas

We've been using canisters on ours - 2 people, mainly weekends away, cook everything on it, lasts approx 4 trips a time.

I like it better as I hated having to take the larger gas bottle everytime.

We went for the gas canister cadac as it meant we could use it for camping and also on days out for a bbq.

It coped quite well doing 8 burgers at a time last time we went to clumber park, while we ate those the sausages cooked ... So much easier than a disposable bbq and much quicker

I bought the HP version of the Safari Chef as I do not like having to carry a gas bottle when only 2 x 500g canisters will do for a trip.

It is no good as a BBQ as I cannot get it hot enough to function as a BBQ. However, it is brilliant with everything else.

thanks for all the replies, they were a great help. Going for the gas canister one mainly for convenience of not having to buy new gas bottle, regulator etc.

Please be aware currently it is not possible to convert a HP to a LP as I have yet to find a compatible conversion in the UK.

However, one can get a LP version base unit for about 25 GBP without having to get the rest.
