Hi
I wonder if anyone has the older style ( grey colour) halfords electric coolbox?
I managed to gret one from ebay, as funds are tight, so was v pleased with my bargain. I plugged it in, and after a few mins it felt colder inside, great! But.. it has a fan on one side, which didn't whirr, kick in, nothing. Is this only supposed to come on after the coolbox has been on for ages, or is my coolbox faulty?
I've never had an electric one before, so I'm not sure what noises I should be listening for!!

last week I borrowed my friends cool box The same one you've just described from Halfords , it has the fan on top at the one side I was told to put it on for a few hours before you start using it .The fan on the outside does make a noise (as fans do) I then plugged it into my car via the cig lighter switch and it kept everything nice and cool.Great idea for camping .Hope this helps.
Thank you Helen :)
How long did it take for the fan to start whirring? My coolbox was on for about 5 mins and the fan never came on.

the fan is what makes the coolboxes of that design work.
peltiers (the bit that does the cooling) work by haveing a fan cool the hot side of the peltier ,if it doesnt then the peltier will not work.
if its the grey coolbox with the unfortunate design of an opening lid almost as deep as the base the fan should work continually.
the only thermo electric box where the fan cuts in and out i have come across was a front opening igloo one with a thermostat
Ah..in that case it looks like I have a faulty one! Off to email the seller!

my model is a FH-18.
after a year it stopped working and on investigation the inlet socket had over heated ,a bit of a bodge re soldering it brought it back to life.
check the fan turns by poking it through the grill ,if it is stif it needs a basic overhaul and the motor oiling ,not difficult but if it was sold as "working" a breach of ebays (or any other) terms as it plainly isnt
also if the seller didnt put in his description he wouldn'tcover the return postage then he must if you return the item ,if not the postage is probably more than the box is worth second hand anyway if its down to you
whether the seller will refund the postage even when they should can be down to the courts and even then you cannot force someone to pay unfortunately.
paypal will bumble about but hasn't any real teeth postage wise they make money however it comes out
Thank you for the advice, I'll get the OH to look at it later :)
Luckily we collected it from a nearby town, so the seller can collect it if we can't get it working properly!
