We just used to use 2 single ones and zip them together so that one was on top and was underneath ,we found it fine ,didnt get tangled and we were greatful of the extra layer :)

I use two flannelette double sheets, stitched together along the bottom and halfway up each side. They make a brilliant liner and are very cosy. The children have single sheets folded in half and stitched, but they don't work as well and they do get tangled in them.

The double liners are only cheap so I may give it a go before I look at upgrading my sleeping bag

stitch a couple of loops on the liners and a couple of buttons on the sleeping bags. then they will stay put and in position.

We've used them.  We had a fleecy one in our winter sleeping bag and a cotton one on its own in France when tent camping and we were fine in them

Tried them once, gave up after a couple of minutes. It's in the caravan wardrobe somewhere now.
