Hi

off to the Ardeche in two weeks (Les Ranchisses, Largentiere), and it seems to be a touch warm down there!!

I'm really tempted to splash out on a sun shade/sail type thing, but don't want to spend pennies we don't need to.

So, do we need to??

We've got a small porch awning and shelter we are taking, but they are tent-like material so I'm not sure they will provide shade as such.

Not sure if some kind of canvas tarp might be the answer, usually canvas is a bit cooler.

If you are taking any children, you will definitely need some good shade.

Even just for adults sitting reading the paper or enjoying a glass of vino, a canvas tarp will make life so much more comfortable.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for an affordable canvas tarp. Someone posted one on a related link in the camping abroad forum but it was £90.

I would get a cheap gazebo for about £16 from Argos and take it with you, or buy an equivalent product when you get there. As long as it's well tied down! It would be much roomier than a tarp.

Aint they classed as weapons of mass destruction on campsites by most?

Well, erm, yes. But I'd still use one if the sun was stifling hot but probably tie it to a tree or on to the toe of a large man with a hankerchief on his head.

Decathlon sell a rather useful and relatively inexpensive tarp and as there are Decathlons all over France why not pick one up there?
