just fired up my old campstove a gelert 3 burner, been a while since used, fitted new gas hose and regulator, Fired up lights perfect with a nice goodburn, however i noticed like a metal clicking / pinging noise, i put it down to the metal being very cold and not being hot for a while, no gas leaks checked with leak spray,
only a suggestion - cos i have no idea! but - could it be that when you fire it up it is burning some residue off the metal hob/grill and that is making the noise?
I would leave it to burn for a good few mins to see if it dies down...
hope you find the answer!
------------- Both Jewelly's post on this login - More than likely it will be her - but it could be him!
I think you're on the right track, possibly the cold metal heating up and slightly expanding. My gas fire in the lounge does this for a couple of minutes on lighting up. Doesn't get used very often.

------------- --------
Growing old disgracefully!!
My 'family' stoves (ie those with a body) do some clicking when they are starting up from cold. I always thought it was different metals heating up at different rates. A friend has an MSR Reactor that gives a high pitched screech when it is heating up that my North Star lantern has started to copy!
If anybody knows what is actually going on I would love to know.
I'd also go with the suggestion of metal expanding at different rates. My Vapalux oil lamp clicks and pings for about tent minutes, after it's turned off.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
