Forgive me if this has been covered, I did search and found some conflicting advice.
We have had the good fortune to have picked up a used Cobb, so now it's home practice time before camping with it. I heave read the 1st time horror stories of food tasting like fire starter, so I really want to get this right and love this baby!
We have picked up some Penbeads as that was all we could find locally. What is the best way to light them? I know we need to really let the Penbeads get started for maybe a half hour - does this meand we are ok to use petroleum based starter?
So what are you folks using and where are you getting it?
I use fibre firelighters from Tesco, no odours from them at all and they work really well. Have used normal firelighters in the past but cant stand the smell of them
I have not used penbeads but have heard that they do not get as hot as the Australian heat beads.
I just use Webber briquettes and find they get really hot and stay hot for hours.
I used normal BBQ briquettes with normal (white) firelighters and we've never had any problems with food tasting funny, cooks perfect everytime. I think with the Cobb it's trial and error getting it right for your needs, good luck with it
