hi there, bought 2 thermarest dreamtime a couple of months ago and at the time thought one seemed thinner and softer, but thought it just need to be flat for a while with valve open, have used it few times now and although comfy and air always comes out when i open valve it still just seems a bit 'soft', how do i check if it has a leak?, or should i not compare it to the other and all are slightly different?, or should i just contact shop i bought it from and speak to them?

Thanks Tammy

Hi Tammy.
We have been using two DT XL's for a couple of years now, fastened together to make a double bed.

We like ours quite firm, so I just put a few puffs of air into them, to get them both to equal firmness.

If I just leave them to self inflate, they both are fine, but a little to soft for or liking, having said that, the pitches that we have use them on in the South of France, have been a little like concrete floors!, maybe I would not add the xtra inflation if were on nice soft grassy pitches.

Andy.

Hi Tammy.
Looks like you may have a leaky DT XL, of course you are past the 28 day retail thing, so you will be on the shops goodwill, but try them first, if no luck then, I would put a phone call into Cascade in Ireland who market the ThermaRest brand for UK, I am sure they will get you sorted under the "Life Time Guarantee" that comes with all ThermaRest matts. I have found that Cascade have gone the extra mile for me in the past.

hi Andy , thought i would let you know, i decided to do a good check of the matteress and took it all out of the soft cover slip and tried blowing it up a bit and it worked a treat, think the valve must have had a kink in it or something, so will try again at a later date, just to make sure, but will keep your info in mind, if it turns out not to be ok.

Thanks Tammy

Hi Tammy.

Good that you may have found the problem, tell me do the DT XL's still have two inflation points (twin valves)?.

Andy.

Hi Andy

No they just have one small plastic screw valve, its a bit of see how fast you can blow it in before it escapes sort of thing!!!!, i am sure there must be a better way, but wouldnt give them up, have a better nights sleep on them , than my own bed at home.

Thanks Tammy
