I recently bought a 12v 12W solar charger for our caravan from Maplins. Must admit, its a fantastic piece of kit and I would recommend it to anyone. Only snag, we paid £39.99 for ours and it has now gone back up to £69.99 so look out for it in any sale they have. I'm connecting a 300w inverter this weekend so we can run our tv and freeview and I'm confident that the solar panel will keep the batteries topped up all week when we go away next.
cant see how if the input to the battery is 12w and the drain on it is over 300 watts then topped up it wont be.
remember 12w is a "typical" number it will be lucky to achieve half that in dull conditions and 300w out of your inverter is less than the wattage the inverter actually uses its probably using 450? watts from your battery.
the battery may last a little longer than if you didn't bother buying the charger but the benefit will rise the more sun and the less you use the battery
probably not good to run a PS3 online gaming session all day
Have to agree, we have been using a 20w solar panel for about 10 yrs and if we use too much electric after a few days we can send our battery in to the red as the panel can't provide enough change, that’s without using an inverter. If we are careful we can go 4/5 days on the solar panel - but only using 102 12 v TV occasionally
