Hi,

This is my first post, so please be gentle! Firstly, sorry for not being able to find the previous post on this subject, I did do a search but nothing came up.

A few months ago I was looking to find a hago beanstalk camp kitchen like my parents owned when I was a kid and I came across a thread on here where people were looking for them too. There are a few on ebay, but they are mostly collection only so not that helpful. I have just found that Royal Leisure make an almost identical product, the greenstalk camp kitchen which is widely available online.

I hope this is of use to someone!!

Hi crunchynut and welcome.

We used the Hago Beanstalk for years and had extra sections when we camped in our frame and trailer tent and very good they were too. However I did read somewhere that Hago went bust years ago. My suspicion is that the Royal is a modern day version of the same.

The Royal Greenstalk is similar to the Hago Beenstalk. Not sure if it is as heavy as original. Looks as though feet can be pegged for extra security unlike the cheapy wire one I have.

What a useful link. Yes, they do look very similar in structure though nothing is ever as good as 70's burnt orange of course!

As a long time owner of a Hago camp kitchen I can absolutey recommend this sort of unit. Sturdy, weatherproof and very functional. I've got some of the extension sections for my Hago and I can build it up into all sorts of useful structures like shelving and coffee tables, not just a kitchen. I was using two tiers as a bedside cabinet in the TT last month. If I'm lightwight camping I just take the top teir plus windshield. I'm pretty sure you could do most of this with the Royal too.

It looks great and although its green I'm sure a can of orange spraypaint would solve that....

Now there's a thought. Does Hammerite come in orange?

Well I just ordered two, so I'll let you know what the quality is like. Like Val says, they can be used in so many ways, I don't really want it as a kitchen, but just for a general shelving unit and in my new tent, I think one shelf would make a great bedside table, so thanks for that tip Val!

We still have the orange ones from the 70's but unfortunately my Mum has been using them to support grow bags in the garden so they've rusted badly (although she's made a fantastic 3 tier flower display where we have no flower bed!) So I was really happy to find these :)

I am still using the shelves that I bought in the 1970 s
I wire brushed them and sprayed them with aluminium paint and they look nice. I use them mainly for storage in the awning keeping shoes etc. off the floor

They make good supports for disposable BBQs as well, as long as the BBQ has one of these little wire supports that holds it an inch or so above the metal shelf insert. Why leave the metal shelf insert in place? Well, if you do that you can also use the windshield, which is very helpful when BBQing.

Did I also mention that it packs up into a very compact package? I don't bother trying to do the bit where a 3-tier + shelf insert + wind shield + upper lid rack is supposed to all slide together into the lid rack. I forget the lid rack and just stack everything in a flat pile, then use a compression strap round it. Ends up about 2" deep for a full 3-tier, or about 12" for every piece of Hago I own which is quite a lot. Mind you I can't lift it then, it's so heavy!. I've got the sink insert, the two dish drainers, two x the three tier basic setup, three extension shelves and the half extension shelf for the gas bottle.  But it's fun to build up, and fast, which is more than I can say for most kitchen units. Almost as good as Lego...
