Having seen a load of posts moaning about GO, I thought I'd post a positive story for once.
Bought a Tristar 3-Way Fridge from them during their extra 15% off weekend (start of July). Used it for 3 separate trips to great effect...very impressed with the cooling on gas (although must remember not to leave it plugged into the car 12V!! Flat battery - standard!).
However, last week, it stopped working on gas, although was still fine on 12v and mains. I took it back after trying all the turning upside down stuff. I explained what was up but then had to admit I didn't have my receipt. I wasn't totally up the creek as I knew I'd bought it with my discount card (£145 with the card...not bad IMO) but when they looked on my card they couldn't find it. They were mega-busy with loads of people waiting but someone sent for the manager to help me and after a few minutes she found the details under a mis-spelling of my name.
In next to no time, they'd brought a new fridge, wheeled it out to my car and issued me with a new receipt. All despite the fact I didn't have a receipt or original packaging - they actually helped me unpack the new one before I put it in the car so they could use the new box to put the old fridge in. They were helpful, courteous and professional at all times...so I'll be going back for sure.
Thumbs up for GO! I've never had any problems with them in store or mail order. I will say that they have become quite expensive, but I think it has been driven to being a big green money making machine by investors. When there was only 3 stores they were great.

They price match and give you an extra 10% off without quibble. How can that be expensive?
I was really pleased with the service from the Oxford Go store this week as i had reserved a 3 shelf unit & could not collect it by the specified date so called them & they said they would keep it for me until Thursday when i had said i could collect it.
When i turned up they could not find it anywhere so sent someone off to the warehouse to get me one from their stock & the assistants were very apologetic that i had to wait but i cannot fault their customer service unlike the Coventry store the previous week when i had reserved a tent on offer & when i turned up to collect it they had none in store but their staff could not give a dam about it.
Up until recently, the only Go Outdoors I had been to was Stockton, seemed to have everything neatly on display, large shop floor with tents on display upstairs. The tents themselves, footprints, carpets, etc were all stored inside the tents they were for and the staff seemed helpful when looking for anything.
We called into the Newcastle one last week on the way north and what a difference. It is smaller and seemed things were just dumped in the aisles, the tents were on display outside with the first 3 tents (all Outwell) having large puddles of water inside. The tents, footprints, etc were stored on shelves, did not seem in any particular order and they had totally empty shelves for the Mojave 5.
Ended up going back to Stockton the next day for a Mojave 5 footprint, plenty in stock there. I hope most are like the Stockton branch rather then the Newcastle one.
I don't care, after a very heated discussion on the shop floor with a job's worth manager in the Wigan store. Who refused to exchange a faulty Colman product, which they would simply of passed back to Coleman at no charge to them selves.
And that's just for starters
At least some one was lucky, shame it's not the norm
------------- Smile - There is no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing.
They tried to off load a used tent on us today, opened the bag at the checkout and the ground sheet was dirty and it had none of the tags that the other bags had,,,They swapped it obviously but we were made to feel as though we were moaners....but hey as long as i do my home work and get the cheapest price i won't expect anything less from what is in fact an Argos for camping.......and you never expect great service from them............
We bought a large and very impressive windbreaker from go outdoors stockton and after it nearly causing a divorce trying to get it to stand up straight with all the guy ropes to sort out in the right places around it, we gave up and took it back to exchange for the 'hammer in pole type'. (god help us if we had been trying to put up a tent!!!) When asked if it had been used I just honestly answered that we had tried and failed. They just exchanged it without any problems so thumbs up for go outdoors from us.!!
Cant fault the go staff at the Sheffield store, managed to crack one of our poles last trip, and with another trip imminent needed to mend it. Went to store could not find correct thickness of pole so asked assistant who promptly got the poles required, sawed them to length, re threaded the poles and re-shock corded the whole thing for us! top marks to them!! Maybe its the same as every other store in england, the staff are either happy in what they do or are a complete nightmare.

Cant knock em, especially at Wigan branch as they have pricematched all my gear till they must be fed up of me, with no issues. Some good guys work there who have given some real good advice too.
Have only been camping for about a month and got 90% of stuff from Wakefield GO Outdoors. I will say they have an amazing price guarantee for items bought but are cheaper in the next sale they have. (if you have bought an item and its cheaper up to a month after they will refund the difference if you have the original reciept). Not many stores would do this without a fight.lol.
Will say though, the 10% back pricematch is not always correct as we recently bought the Streetwise Camel trailer from them at £399.99. When we saw it on a website elsewhere for £340.00 just before we went to pick it up, we asked them if they would honour the 10% back. They refused on a technicality saying the other firm delivered to the home and as they did not provide this service for this particular item it wasnt like for like. Advised them the other company simply offered the home delivery as an extra that we had to pay seperate so the trailer was still 60quid cheaper but they still refused. Sounds to me like they just wouldnt honour the pricematch as it would have meant around a £90 refund. Not good service in my eyes particulaly as they would not offer delivery on this item even though the GO Outdoors website offers home delivery.(we had no choice to still buy it from them as we were going away two days later).
We too have today had fantastic service from matt at go outdoors in Sheffield. After a recent experience else where he has restored my faith in shops and when things don't go quite according to plan!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
