Its that time of year again, where we are getting ready to go on the annual trip to Wales and just wanted some advice about Gazebos the pop up version etc.
Here goes,i am trying to buy a Waterproof Pop up Gazebo and would like to know what the numbers mean,in particular is a 420 Denier better then a 190 PU ?.
The 190 PU means that the weight of the base material is 190 D (denier) and it has a polyurethane waterproof coating applied and is the same material used on a lot of tents. As for Denier that applies to the weight of the fabric and also the thickness of the fibres used to make the material but has nothing to do with waterproofing. However if it has a waterproof membrane 420D could be the weight of the material including the waterproof coating

Had read on here somewhere that Gazebos were banned on some sites, because they fly away and do damage to people/property when they return to land

Yep, I've been to lots of sites that don't allow them - they can indeed do a lot of damage and, having seen several making bids for freedom, don't think it will be long before all sites ban them.
We had a cheap one at a show at Taunton Racecourse several years ago. The area is high, flat and open. We used 3 of our pegs on each corner and the weather was foul.
A trader with the same cheap gazebo, which he was struggling to keep up, asked why ours was surviving the wind. When we showed him our product, he had to buy some pegs off of us and his gazebo was OK for the rest of the weekend.
Basically, it's the way it's anchored....
Gazebos are not necessarily bad things.

Delta Ground Anchors..the strongest, most secure tent pegs in the world! Nylon anchors twice as efficient as rock pegs in 'average' soil! Quality stainless pegs for tougher soil are available.
We got a brilliant Pop up gazebo from argos,it has steel sides not aliminium poles and it is quite strong withholding quite a bit of wind and plenty of rain that we had!! It was in the sale from £70 to £35 so it was a bargain, but, having said that now we have got it if anything happened to it I would happily pay the full price for it again. We got the 3meter by 3meter one and you have to purchase the sides seperately, we also got them in the sale so we were very lucky!!
I would suggest buying the type of gazebo which has a one-way covered vent hole in the roof at the apex. This allows any gusts of wind that get under the canopy to escape.
Must admit i come down on the side of day tents, ours has never let us down and never leaked which is more than can be said for the gazebo that it replaced!
Its assembled like a tent and has guylines and pegs to secure it, it can withstand the wind and would never fly off (if its pegged properly) It can also be zipped up with see through netting to give you complete protection from insects, fantastic bit of kit and it cost about 20 quid, not too sure if they still do them.
I think the reason Gazebo's have such a bad name on camp sites is people don't always peg them down properly, have read on here some don't bother pegging down at all. Can't imagine the short of damage them metal legs would cause when they touch down, tents and cars can be repaired but people, kids no sorry buy a day tent.
Hi - I have seen many gazebos trashed in windy weather, and would therefore not consider one for camping. Rather, i have a day tent; it is more sturdy, with more guying points, can be used on ay site, and as it has 4 proper wall panels it is more versatile.
i have to say we use a quencha tarp instead of a gazebo, far more practical and safer plus tiny to pack, BUT if you were looking for a pop up gazebo i noticed Halfords had them on sale for £35 ish.
