we just got a gas bbq, don't know what make yours is, but ours we use as is, no lava blocks needed, cleaning is easy as grill and burner covers all just lift off, so can be washed in the sink and replaced .
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
If it's similar to the one we got from Asda last year(..full height trolley,wheels one end,one long burner assembly but with two conrol knobs),then it doesn't use lava rocks(..should add,we didn't assemble the lower trolley section).
We do line ours with foil,to help keep it clean,although that does cause it to "flare-up" sometimes,as the oil/grease can gather in the foil,rather than flowing into the "drain pot"...
