Welcome to the forum, you should measure the full length of your awning rail, then add to this the distance between the end of the awning rail and the ground at each end the three distances added together is th length of awning you require but I am sure someone will post a diagram for you .

That's if you need a full size awning - the porch style ones can be great - you need to consider how much floor space you require.
