Has anyone ever tried sleeping on fat airic mattresses on top of a caravan mattress? Our caravan mattress is soooo hard and I was wondering how it would be with a couple of these on with the bed in a double position ...
I've never slept on one. Does anyone have any ideas?
I also thought they might double up to take in a suitcase when we sleep on those hard Greek beds!
We have 2 which i an considering selling soon as we've night a caravan. To be honest they were spares as we used an aerobed whilst camping. I think they'd be fine on mattresses but have to say i don't think they'd go in a suitcase at all, they are pretty big even when rolled up i think youd need a big hold for each. Why not look at a foam mattress topper?

I would think it would be fine. I use one to solve a similar problem. I have a fatairic, and would have no problem fitting two in a suitcase. Don't know if I'm just really good at rolling it up after using, but others have said how bulky they are but I can get mine back in its bag with room to spare. You do have to tripple roll it to get all the air out though, only takes a couple of minutes at the most.

Would 2 x Fat Airics / Dozers properly fit onto your caravan mattress, or will there be a gap down the middle? I suspect SIMs will slide a bit on top of a mattress. Also, I don't really know what you'd gain? We've used Fat Airics and Thermarest SIMs in the past and they are great for insulating from the cold floor but not the softest sleep surface. If a hard mattress is the problem, I would have thought you'd be better off getting a memory foam mattress-topper, the same size as the original mattress, or even a new mattress for the caravan bed; I know there's a place in Hull who make replacement van mattresses, and you can specify how firm or soft you want them to be. Prices aren't bad, either (around £150, I was quoted).
We had a similar problem in our caravan & tried the SIM thing...they slid around a lot & we found we ended up with one of us lying between the darn things
We ended up buying a memory foam topper. During the day, if we have an awning up we roll it & pop a plastic bag over the bottom & stand it in there or if no awning, we roll it & lay it on one of the seats at the back of the caravan (twin dinette layout).
As mentioned, you could go down the reupholstery route as well....our caravan is 16 years old, so not wanting to spend the amount of money it would cost to have the seats completely redone, & as the foam is fairly rubbish in ours I'm going to buy some foam to put under the seat cushions to add support (lucky as we also have lots of room for storing for the bit that goes in the middle when bed made up) & we use throws over the seats as the upholstery is a bit dated!! Using the rear dinette as a permanent bed is not an option as it's Abi's bedroom so we can still chat in the evening when she goes to bed!!
I can't agree about them being uncomfortable, but now realise that you want to put two together. They are narrow, although the Dozers are a fraction wider, but would not really be wide enough if used as a double. Some are designed to be clipped together though. As far as comfort is concerned, once they have self inflated, (some are better than others at this) you can add a few puffs (or more) of air to give more support if required. I put about ten puffs in, then once laying on top just let small amounts of air out untill it's perfect.

Hi apologies for hijacking the thread but if you were interested in selling your fat airics Id be i interested in buying if original poster isn't.
Back on topic I agree with previous poster I'm not sure if they add anything to your current bed and you'll get a gap. I have two already and you can't push them together due to round edges.
Having said that I find them comfortable on their own so they would make a reasonable alternative. They are firm though, which I like, but this can be adjusted to some extent by reducing air content.
