Well the question is in the title, just wondering what type, Fan, Ceramic, Halogen or some other. Doesn't really matter about the brand at this stage, unless someone really recommends one. Its more as to what to start looking for
I think most say fan heater although there are a few that use heaters during the night and prefer oil filled rads as they generate less noise.
Tesco direct currently have their value fan heater reduced to £9, it has a tilt cut out so although looks rather tall should be as safe as any other cheapie fan heater. If you're happy to spend a bit more may be worth buying a greenhouse heater (I think tesco do one too) as they are IP rated unlike the household ones.
Beware of Halogen heaters. I had one under my desk whilst working at cold premises. I noticed nothing at the time but the following day I had a severe burn on my leg. This type of heater can have the same effect as sunburn if you have it too close to you

I started off with a convector heater which was fine in a small tent but just wasn't powerful enough to heat a large tent full of cold air. I changed to a fan heater and have never looked back.
A fan heater works quickly and efficiently, pumping hot air around rather than trying to heat static air like a convector. The one problem is that they tend to be noisy...some more so than others...so you should try to find one that is fairly quiet. I have one which only cost £10 from Currys a few years back and it's not too bad but does occasionally wake me when it kicks in on the thermostat at night. Once I am in bed though I tend to turn it right down so it only kicks in if it gets exceptionally cold.
I have never tried an oil filled radiator but I would imagine they would struggle in a large tent and would need to be kept on permanently to keep the air warm inside.

I agree with this; we had a halogen heater and found it didn't throw much heat out, but it illuminated our tent as if the sun was shining from inside. Okay if you want to identify your tent from several miles away!
If you go for a fan heater, don't go for one of the really powerful ones or it will trip the lecci.
Oil filled rads are okay if you have the room to transport them. Again, check the wattage.
IMHO, a ceramic fan heater with dual power output, no more than 2kW maximum, thermostat, fan only function, oscillates and with a trip cut out.
The one I go camping with now was picked up from Lidl's, about 14 GBP (I *think*) over a year ago.
One can always wear ear plugs if the heater keeps him/her awake at night.

2300w = 10amps, so anything under 2300w. My camping fan heater has two heat settings, the highest being 2000w. I have a fan heater at home which is 2400w which would obviously be too powerful for camping.
Just remember to switch it off if you want to use an electric kettle and use one at a time or the two together will exceed 10 amps and trip the pitch electrics
