Can members please advise me on the use of camping cheques.  We go to France and Europe quite frequently and last year I rad about "camping cheques".  Any comments will be welcome along with advice from anyone who uses them.   Many thanks.   Jethroc

I suspect this would be better in the Abroad section.

Camping Cheques are baiscally vouchers that allow two people and often a pet to stay on campsites for a set fee each night including electricity, the current price is £13.95 or €15 . They can be purchased as paper cheques but there are a couple of options to buy them on an electronic card. Best to have a look at the Camping Cheque website

There is another scheme which seems to be overtaking Camping Cheques in terms of popularity and that is the ACSI Card and their website is here

Thanks David --- have seen info. re ACSI also, but just wondered if other campers had found them beneficial.

Thanks. Jethroc

Jethroc, both camping cheques and the ACSI card are only valid in mid and low seasons, and are not acceptable anywhere in high season,There are a few site in the UK that accept Camping Cheques,so their value to you is dependant when you travel,I used them last year fot the first week of our holiday,mid-season,and saved myself a few pounds by doing so.

If you don't want to go in the height of season then Camping Cheques or the ACSI card  are the answer.

I was on a site last year when a fellow camper said what good value the site was at 26 euros.  When I told her I had just paid 13 Euros she went loopy !!

Personally, we use both Camping Cheques and the ACSI card.  Both come with excellent maps and guide books showing sites.  There are plenty to choose from wherever you go on the continent.

It's a matter of choice.  With Camping Cheques you can pay in sterling before you go ( or some use the French web-site and pay in Euros ).  With ACSI you pay the site direct when you check out.

Once you've used them you will not want to pay 'normal' rates again !

A third scheme, which unfortunately is reducing in the number of sites, is Vacansoleil.

These cheques work in exactly the same way as Camping Cheques but cost £9 as opposed to the £13.95 of Camping Cheques.

It is worth planning your trips around those sites that still accept them!
