A lead acid battery depending on the type of metals used in the plates can self discharge between 10% and 40% per  month the higher the antimony content the higher the rate of self discharge,that coupled with the drain from the alarm in 4 months it may be expected.

Batteries do discharge even with everything turned off especially in cold weather.

Mine certainly didn't last for 4 months with the alarm on but the smallest solar panel available does the trick.  Mine is propped up in between a window and the blind and simply plugged into a 12 volt socket.  ( Probably not as it should be done but it works )

Just another thought, Debbie.

Mine is an Ace ( Swift group ) and has a dedicated solar panel input plug just under the front seat alongside the battery box.  Might be worthwhile having a look in your hand-book to see if your Swift has.

In that case, it's even easier --  buy and plug !!

thanks DaveS1.  have checked my handbook and we do have a solar input plug! Didnt even know it was there! lol.  All we need to do now is find  out where to get a solar panel and how much.
