Didnt know their was a camping forum about so this is my first post. Just like to say hello to everyone, my names Paul, i'm 24, have be camping for years and outdoorsy person. Skiing, Hiking, Mountain Climbing, Walking, Kayaking lots really.
Anyways in the past I have always been by myself really camping wise be it in the lakes, ben nevis area or the odd RAF base. Windy places, however recently I took my partner camping and she loved it meaning, I bought a bigger tent etc and we started going camping more.
However I've always used the little 1 burner stoves that take the cartridge and then using 2 when my partner came along but now they are getting irritating and we need to look at something else, they just use too many cartridges, pressure runs out and the 2 is just no good anymore.
We cook inside the tent as its big enough, we were looking at a duel fuel burner but I've ruled it off her list as in my mind it will burn the top of the tent being as hot as it is.
Myself I've been looking at a campingaz chef stove, 2 burner, 1 grill then powering from a 4.5kg butane bottle via a regulator - will that work?
So my question is what should we use?
Can anyone help me with some opinions advice etc.
A Campingaz or any other make of 2 burner stove with separate gas bottle as you describe is the most popular & easiest setup & is what most campers use.
Hi and welcome I'd personally go down the double burner and 4.5kg route . I can't recommend one in particular but we have a simple double burner I think a camping gas !? Fasted in the rear of our Landy with 4.5kg and it works fine . As a plus you have I'm guessing a backpacking stove as back up . Nothing worse than the gas running out .

To be honest most of the camping we will be doing this year will be the mainstream places with local amenities about, I've just had an operation and need to build my walking ability (lost muscle) back up so cant do the hardcore stuff till thats done so the gas will be well catered for.
go for the duel fuel coleman one you wont regret it. Why do you think it will burn the top of the tent any more than a gas one? They are hotter but you have a pan on top and you can turn them down. One major issue with the gas cylinders is getting them filled, especially as you only fill them when empty. A friend of ours always runs out of gas because they use 3/4 of a tank on every weeks camping they do.It always means they have to find gas when camping which can be a pain and its hard to tell how much gas you have left before setting out. You could take a spare but with liquid fuel you dont have that issue.
I too would recommend the Coleman Dual Fuel stove.
My Cadac Safari Chef HP and suitcase stoves are gathering dust in the garage now that I have discovered how good the Coleman stove is, especially if one likes to camp in the colder months.

I have got a Coleman perfect flow grill and stove combination and wouldn't have anything else it is really good. The grill can be used instead of a bbq and cooks really nice steak, chicken breasts, burgers etc.
We have the dual fuel & a double burner with gas bottle but if you go early & late season when it gets cold I would recommend propane as it doesnt freeze.
We have had a couple of "older" second hand stoves off fleabay & wouldn't buy new as the grills are crap while the older types ( ours were Epigas) have bigger steel mesh grill elements that actually work.
As for the Coleman I mainly use it for Seafishing as it cooks a full english no problem what ever the weather on a wind blasted prom.
I would recommend the coleman duel stove too. Ive been camping in this cold weather and the campingaz couldnt handle it and wouldnt even boil the kettle fully. We now dont even bother with it and leave it in the car. The coleman hasnt let us down even in -4c

We want something that we can cook indoors with, as we tend to camp all year round. In the past the cooking indoors has always kept the tent warm.
Why do the duel fuels have to be used outdoors?
They dont but you do have more of a fumes issue than with gas . Ive used my MSR Experdition stove in our tent in a hotel room and in the rear of a van and the fumes were no problem for short period cooking .
Gas is so much simpler and cleaner for use in a tent . im not saying better but ive never come across any body who uses gas having flaring or cleaning issues that do happen with a duel fuel .
