Hi there
My friend came to see my new caravan when we brought it home yesterday. While her and her partner were looking around, we got onto the subject of towing and storage during towing. They said that they remove the gas bottle from their caravan and store it in their car while they are travelling.
I have never considered removing the gas bottle during transit. I thought that it was meant to be carried in situ and that's why there was a sticker indicating its location. Also the thought of driving around with a full bottle of gas in my car sounds very scary :-0
Anyway, my question is = what is the safest practice re gas bottles? any advice would be appreciated

Leave it in the caravan,if you carry it in the car you need to be able to secure it in the upright position in a ventilated area. In an accident you don't want it flying around in the car.

If you leave it in the caravan just make sure it is turned off whilst towing.

ive always kept mine in the caravan, if you are unlucky enough to have a crash its the first place the fire crew will go to check or remove the gas,
i do normally carry a bottle in the car but thats strapped in so well that even id go through the windscreen before it moved, and that a bottle for the bbq,

Gas bottles should remain in caravan gas locker, if it is necessary to carry them elsewhere due to excess noseweight then they need to be secured, either in caravan or car. The fire risk is slight, car fuel tank is far more likely to rupture in an accident than a gas bottle & it would need 400C for them to explode so direct sunlight won't hurt them.

Thank you very much for the replies
I'll continue to keep it secured in the gas locker and switched off during transit and I'll also pass your comments onto my friend
