Hi there!

I am a new campervan owner - I still LOVE my tents though. In my camper I have a space for a loo! My kampa khazi sadly doesn't fit.

I really need something that won't smell as it will be kept (hidden) but quite in the living space. Do the flushable loos really not smell? Or does that chemical smell waft through your van/tent? Or perhaps, only in the heat?

So, if you had a choice between an Elsan Potty 238 or a Thetford 335 porta potty, which would you choose? (Both of these will fit my small loo space). I'd love to know what you think, especially if you use either of these types already. It's not a cheap purchase, so any advice is really welcome,

Thanks in advance...

My thoughts are that if you put something in the holding tank that smells then you are going to get a smell coming out the next time you displace some gasses with whatever you are putting in at the time. Very basically if you use it for solids they are going to break down releasing gases and the chemicals will mask the smell. But does the chemical smell worse than the natural smell....

If you only use it for night time pee and empty it every day you should not have any problems with smell and you would need very little chemical. Make sure you clean it thoroughly between trips to prevent a build up of scale.

Thanks for comments. Birder99 good advice, night time use only and only small amount of chemical with good in-between cleaning.

Cheers & Happy camping!
