Hi, just returned from 1st camp of the year, just local at BobbyBees, at Burton Fleming to check all euipment was in working order.
Had a great weekend only spoilt by th airbed we bought in Feb from Go Outdoors. We treated ourselves to a triple depth airbed purely because they were having a sale.
MY husband gave it the once over last Tuesday, good thing he did, the electric wire to the unit had been cut, accidently/on purpose who know's, but one thing is for sure I would have been so P***** to arrive on site to a useless bed, any trip to Outdoors exchanged said bed with £5 goodwill voucher, thanks GO.
So we arrive pitch, settling go out like you do for a few beers, back to the tent & to bed, we had to blow up the tent 4 times during the night, not happy bunnies were we.
And the same again Saturday night, we had planned to come home on Sunday anyway, now just waiting for GO to open on Monday.
Do any of you have one of these airbeds, are they woth it or should we stick to a normal one.
We had a lovely weekend, shame about the sleeping Roll on Cornwall inn May
They don't make normal ones any more. We had rubberised cotton ones for years and they lasted forever (almost), then all you could get was PVC and we've had the triple-depth and the single depth and they all go down in the night. We cut our losses and got SIMs instead. They're lovely and toasty and easy to sleep on once you get used to turning over with no bounce. We're in our 50's though and, going forward I've no idea how we're going to get up off the floor in a couple of years;) On all other aspects, I wish I'd discovered them sooner. They also leave you with so much more room in the tent.
I also used a rubberised cotton airbed for years with no problems but since changing to modern double height airbeds I have found that not only do they need pumping up at least once a day but they can get very cold at night as well...even with loads of insulation.
Having just come back from a very chilly two days I went out yesterday and bought a camp bed. I already had a self inflating camping mat so I intend to put this on top as a 'mattress'. It seems to be a good combination and many campers seem to be changing to this set-up.
We have a double height queen blow up bed, which has done us proud, we had a relative stay on it at our house, and during one night he ended up surrounded by the sides at it had deflated somewhat, aghast that I may have needed a new one, we inflated it a week ago, and slept on it - this time no deflation. It is always wise to check the stoppers, the one on ours has a twisty bit, and a plug bit, and it was this that wasnt secured properly. I have tried sleeping on double blow up beds (singular height) but they just dont do it for me, as for sleeping on a SIM, i'd rather sleep in the car. We are now checking the blow up beds for our trip out next week, the singles, and the doubles both need repair patches, we find the bike repair patches very good, and so far so good... I will no doubt follow this thread after our camping trip away and let you know if any of them went down.
I have used cheap blow up air beds for years with no real issues. I think its just hit and miss. I buy the cheapest i can because the quality all looks the same. Singles are much better than doubles . We all use sigle cheap beds (£6 from tesco) and i carry a spare just in case one breaks. If you want double depth put one on top of the other and at least if one fails you can still get a.nights sleep. I think for the money they do a good job.

We also have a double height queen size air bed that we've never had problems with. it is flocked on the top for extra comfort. We put a fitted sheet on and then the sleeping bags (that can be fixed together if needed) - and i've just bought a faux fur throw to put over the top for extra warmth (if needed) but more to make it look nice. We've never had any problems with it being cold. I think thats because its a double height one.

I bought a good old red and blue rubberised one last year from Argos so they do still make them. I think Towsure had them too.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
