In the past i have had no joy with Airbeds and after my last camping trip i decided enough was enough, i am going to upgrade my sleeping equiptment. I have looked at the top quality Airbeds, the Self inflating mats and the Camping beds and find myself going from one to the other. I would apreciate any coments on your views and what you use,so i can weigh up the pros and cons. Hopefully i will then be able to make a final choice from the coments i recieve.
Hi!
We've just spent our first weekend camping with our new camp beds with SIM on top, having previously used air beds. The campbed/SIM combination was very comfy - much more so than the airbeds. I like that the camp beds are so stable and much easier to get into a comfortable sleeping position compared to the air beds.
Hope this helps.

I can completely agree with Claregirl 70; the combination of campbed and sim or even a thick topper mattress is very comfortable and will keep you nice and snug, too. There are several on the market but I'd advice you to look for something with a bit more quality. Mind how the frame is built up and what material is used. Lightweight aluminium is quite strong but may buckle if you're build heavier. If you're hiking it is too large/heavy but camping by car should be possible to bring one or two with you. Mind, sleeping is vital to ones quality of life and so should be not saved upon. This often means you'd have to fork out a bit more for longer lasting comfortable quality bed or air mattress or SIM.
I have one with a double frame and an extra support "beam" to support my large body.
Hi I usually sleep on a double height airbed but went away this weekend and tried a campbed and 3cm sim and memory foam mattress topper it was the best sleep camping I have had
Carp fishermans "Bivvy bed for me..Well padded and comfy without sim or any other mat on top...Six adjustable legs so I am level on any slope...Large mud feet to protect the groundsheet...Carp fishing 4 season s/bag with a loop top and bottom to go over the bed means bag stays put during the night...Only minus...Is it takes up a bit of room when packing but if its a choice between the bed and something else...The bed wins....Best nights sleep I've ever had while camping...

I completely agree with Jelboy, although I usually use a sim too! (Soft Southerner that I am).
My thread on this was few days ago, but, this was what happened at weekend.
Went camping and it was below freezing in the night. i was actually warm sleeping in my layers of clothes, but, my airbed went flat before I got into bed. So, as we ALWAYS take a spare got that sorted, but that is 2 airbeds weve bought in last month. as, grandchildren slept 2 weeks ago and wanted to sleep on airbeds and one was punctured.
So, went to Go Outdoors on Monday, and looked at camping beds, one cheap and two more expensive. Quite heavy we thought.
As OH is a fisherman we then went to look at fishing poles and there we saw the fishing beds. Like a camp bed but with more padding and elastic so plenty of give for sleeping. So bought 2. Tried them at home and appear so comfy and quite light. Also can use them like a sunlounger.
Only problem OH finds his is not long enough, so its going back but mine is perfect. So maybe have a look at them. Can be very expensive ( some over £100, but the ones we bought were £49.99 each. Still not cheap but if you add the prices of all the airbeds Ive bought!
I have two fisherman's beds for me and my wife as well and used them for a few years. But I find them less comfortable as I'm a "belly sleeper" and I find they're not comfortable that way. As long as I'm on my back it's okay but turning on one is not easy if you're a man of bulky substance.
Ah freebird, I sleep on my side so feels comfy, I think OH gunna go back to his slightly bigger airbed for the length. There were larger fishermans beds but at over £100! and its carrying everything. Got a trailer and now thats full.
We went down the fishing bed route and they are fantastic - we spent £100 each on 2 but as mentioned above we go through at least a couple of airbeds a year so over a 3 year period they are cost affective
So glad we bought them as now have a decent nights sleep
we gave up all together and ended up buying a fold up guest bed, best thing we have ever done. we bought a double and it is lightweight and has wheels we just pop it into caravan not too tent friendly tho cos of size for transporting
Camp bed + SIM combo for me too, changed from airbeds, after my trusted double airbed developed a leak mid trip over the Christmas weekend last year.
My first trip with the new sleeping system at Easter was a resounding success, and I slept like a log throughout the trip!

We're currently pumping up our airbed every night, as late as possible to give us a fighting chance of there still being air in it in the morning. Thinking it's time for a change, and seen many people on here recommend the campbed/SIM combination.
Tried the campbed alone, it was either an Outwell or one of Go's own brand, it was worse than sleeping on the ground.
One question on the combo, how do you secure the SIM to the campbed? Doesn't it tend to slide off as you move around in your sleep?
