Glad to have spotted this thread!!  We are newbies too and have just purchased an EHU ready for our first trip and I have some questions that I hope someone can answer for me.

1.  Will a normal hook-up run a sandwich toaster if you unplug everything else ?

2.  If you wanted to take a microwave do you need to get a special camping one, or  will a normal one work?

3.  Does anyone have any "tips" that would be useful for a newbie in general?

Cheers!

Whenever we camp we take a normal household extension lead with us as the three plugs aren't enough :( two mobile phones, heater, lighting, coolbox, sometimes a TV (don't flame me!).. its too much of a phaff to keep chopping and changing and we never have a 'trip' incident.

We happily leave stuff plugged in (especially the coolbox!) and go out for the day.

Hi,

We always leave our coolbox plugged in continuously, whether we are in or out, and we also run an extension lead off our EHU as the phone chargers are too big to get three plugs in the sockets!

Sandwich toaster should be fine.
Just check the power label ... how many watts ...
A standard UK ehu should give you at least 1.3 Kw at 6 amps supply or 2.2Kw at 10 amp supply
Just do the calc: Amps x volts = Watts for a quick and easy check.
A normal Microwave should be fine ... eg 800 watts ... no problem

You can get quite sophisticated trying to work it all out but as a general rule of thumb we never have more than one thing that heats (e.g kettle, oven or heater) on at the same time as these items are the most wattage and we've never had a problem. But as said it is worth checking with the site that it isn't a low amp supply as you will need to be a bit more careful in these situations.

Thank you for all your comments. I've had a reply back from Wheal Rodney campsite and their amperage is 16.

I'm pleased I'm helping other EHU Virgins too with my 'silly' questions!

We have these heaters...they're a bit cheaper than argos but do the same!

A normal microwave rated at 800w is the heat output, the input wattage can be 50% more i.e. 1200w
