I'm looking to add to my camping equipment for this year's trip by buying a windbreaker. Looking online it appears to be hit or miss, there are lots of reviews complaining about the sturdyness of some. Poles and guy-ropes are criticised in many.
If anyone has any recommendations - or even a good windbreaker they have to sell I would welcome your responses.
We have used the old strippy ones for the last few years, they are ok but in high winds fall down in hard ground the wood can split and when its windy they make an anoying sound!! This year I have bought a gelet windbreak, but its not been used yet roll om 9th of june
we always use the wooden pole variety as we find them a lot more stable in high winds plus the lack of guy ropes means you can position your chairs etc wherever you wish behind them...if very strong winds are expected then we tend to add guy ropes temporarily for peace of mind...
we've always used the cheap brightly coloured striped windbreaks in the past, but we decided to smarten things up a little this year and treat ourselves to a couple of dry stone wall windbreaks so we can blend into the scenery a little better...
hi,,, last week we got a new windbreak. from go outdoors.. we put it up on site on saturday and it still looks great today very good in the wind....£24...higear..5 metres long.. 1.4 metres high.....hope this helps

Depends on whether you want a space saving windbreak or a wooden pole one, as the previous poster has said, the wooden poles ones are better cos you dont have guide ropes all over the place, plus, on the poly ones eventually the eyelets go and the material slides down the poles, but the poly ones dont take up much room
Look on ebay for a plain wooden poled windbreak if you dont want a stripy one
Also, some sites, Three Rivers in Clitheroe, charge for these which is out of order in my opinion

We have the outdoor revolution ones - very sturdy and easy to put up. You do have to make sure the end guy is forward of the windbreak or it will just fall down.
Just thought - you need 2 guy's on the end pole to make it very stable.
We had ours up on the cliff top at Attwick in 25 mph winds and it never moved.
I have both types of windbreaks, a 4-pole modern one from Khyam with a canopy with thin metal poles that come in sections, as well as a 5-pole Blue Diamond one with wooden steel capped poles.
I never had any issues with stability with the Khyam one.
I can never drive the wooden poles into the ground far enough to make the Blue Diamond one stable without the need to use guys. This windbreak was purchased as the modern windbreak would look out of place with my retro-looking Hypercamp Escala 4.
I always use Delta pegs for some of the guys for my windbreaks, providing the ground condition is suitable, as Deltas are difficult to drive into the ground if it is very hard.
I do not have any issues with trip hazards with guys, as I only camp on my own with the dog.

if the ground is a bit on the hard side for a wooden poled windbreak try making some initial holes first with a rock peg to break the ground up a bit...
We have an Outwell one that matches both our tents. It has guy lines which are a pain and you keep tripping over them. Also quite flimsy so not great in the slightest of breeze. Will keep using it until it need replaced. When I do need to get another one, it will definitely be one of them cheapo wooden striped ones. I was in Aldi this morning and saw them in there. Argos also have them and noticed that the 4.5 metre one was reduced.

We have two blue diamond stripey ones never had a problem keeping them up v good quality. In strong winds we attach a couple of guys to be on safe side but never been an issue
