I want to buy a portable charcoal bbq and after looking around i'm in doubt between a Cobb or a Son of hibachi. Any suggestions on which one is the best choice?
i think this will depend on that you want to do.the son of hibachi is a great bbq,but that is all it is.
as were the cobb does alot more stuff, but as a bbq is not as good.
Is it to slow or is it difficult to get good grilled meat? I think i will mostly use a bbq. But i like the other features of the Cobb. Difficult choice
I'd say the Cobb is probably better compared with the cadac than the son of hibachi/grilletto than Cobb. We have cadac and son of hibachi the s-o-h is just a BBQ whereas you van cook a full meal on cadac/Cobb all in one go. S-o-h is a very good compact BBQ you light it close it up to heat v quickly then open it up and it's ready to cook. You do your cooking then close it again to self clean, cool and pop it in its snuff bag and take it wherever you want so as a portable BBQ it does take some beating and it uses so little charcoal too.
Hi, I have a Cobb which I love, in my personal opinion the deep frying pan is a must have accessory with it.....it's brilliant for us being a large family because we do joints of beef whilst away and we tend to do mince gravy or curry & things in the pan - it takes a while to get used to cooking on it, but we tend to eat later than the children when camping so we serves their's up & then just pop our's back under the lid to happilky simmer away until we are ready to eat.
Just to add to your confusion - we have just bought a double Skillet which I think I will probably use more for cooking slow braised joints of meat & will be a godsend in cold weather (if you don't protect the Cobb from really cold winds it tends to hinder the cooking temperature (in my opinion)). I've never been out camping with the Double Skillet yet, but we've had it two week & I've used it every day for cooking at home - we've had baked tatties, shoulder of pork, re-heated cheap supermarket sausage rolls (they were lovely, once heated n crisped up), frozen steak pies, minted lamd, chinese lamb chops, brilliant omlettes (I've never been able to get them so hugh n fluffy before), my other half loved the fried eggs in it cuz you can put the lid on & you end up with perfectly runny yellows n cooked whites.
All of this is just my humble opinion....
Hope it helps

Cobb is far more versatile than the SOH which you can "only" grill with. The cobb can be used for Slow BBQ with a low temperature (briquettes) or grilling with more heat with charcoal or briquettes, just more than with Low & Slow.
Cobb uses indirect heat as well as direct heat. On a Cobb, you could make a complete meal with i.e. chicken with veggies and a few spuds in one go, while you remain social with your guest or family while the SOH needs constant attention as it is grilling over direct heat you'd be doing. Also the latter is a greater risk at charred food while still raw on the inside.
SOH would be great for skewers, though. Good hot grate with plenty of room for a good few skewers with goodies on. But, you need to keep watching it and keep turning the food items.
Horses for courses but if you want effortless good BBQ'ing, I'd go for the Cobb, if I were you and if you have the money for it. You'll be an enthusiast before you know it.
