Hi meacock.

Seems like you had found Astra1 at 19.2 Deg East, so well done you, you were very close to finding Astra2 at 28.2 Deg East, from the satellite you were around a 1000 miles out maybe more.

But from down on the ground you were only a matter of inches out, maybe 4 at worst.

So give it another go, you will need to lower the elevation of the Dish, but only by around 3 Deg, from when you found Astra1.

Just think of it as learning to ride a bike, once you have done it, it comes as second nature.

I wouldn’t mind laying odds that you are trying to set the azimuth (lateral) by starting from South and slowly panning East?

I always recommend starting from approx SE and slowly panning towards South. That way, Astra 1N should be the first satellite that you encounter.

Just follow the instructions contained in my write-up "The art of aiming a satellite dish" the link to which was kindly given by Griff10553 in his post. Thanks Griff.

If the link doesn’t work, this is the full URL

 http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=552

It is always better to practice setting it up at home before you get on a site. That way, you won’t have an audience to add to your frustration.

It’s really like learning to ride a bike, once you’ve got the hang of it – it’s a doddle!

Let us know how you get on and if there’s anything you don’t understand, - just ask.

Good luck,

Vin Blanc

I use DP AR Pro on my iPhone. Had it a year and found the bird every time.

I believe the App is now available for Android.

Anyway, here is a link for you to take a look at;

Your link doesn’t want to open Buchaneer, but in any case, the Dishpointer.com link is already included in the "Art of aiming a sat dish" link I posted earlier.

Does your link provide different info?

thanks for all the advice, we ditched the satellite finder (and instructions ha) then we left it to have something to eat and when we went back to it we did have about half power signal, we could get a flickery picture but no sound, so I think we are nearly there and just need to tweek it a bit, I'm hoping to get it sorted before we go away as the site we are going to next doesnt have an aerial socket on the bollards and karting the aerial around is a right pain, I think as you all say, practice makes perfect

:-)

I had the same issues as you, but if you follow the link I pointed you to earlier you won`t go wrong.

This is also a very good site with loads of helpful information.
