we're just getting back into camping now that our youngest is 2 and have decided to ditch a double airbed in favour of 2xsingle camping beds and 2 SIM's.
we're thinking of these higear campbeds so if anyone has any comments on them feel free to post or recommend. I'm not fussed about the weight as we always park next to the tent.
As for the SIM's I have no idea they seem to range from around £8 to £80 - can anyone recommend something mid range that they like.
Whats more important to spend money on the campbed or the SIM - we can't really afford to buy expensive for both.
Do you have a costco near you, or know of anyone who is a member? They do SIMS for around £21 each, which in our experience are pretty good. If you have an Aldi near you, they also had SIMs in a couple of weeks ago for around £12.99. Some shops have reduced theirs even further. Aldi also had campbeds!
thanks - we are costco members so will check there although it's a bit of a trek - maybe this weekend - we read about the aldi ones today on here but went into our local one and they didn't have any SIMs or beds?!?
Hi ya, we bought those camp beds for our last trip ....... we loved them, so comfy, would advise to have a dry run at home just get the squeaky newish sound to go, we just let the kids have a camp out in the lounge. My sister even bought one. Down side is the kids now want one each, airbeds aren't quite the same now, lol x
We've just done exactly the same as you, and ditched the double airbed for these same camp beds. Not used in anger yet, unfortunately, but spent two night on a tester garden camp, and I was very impressed. We plonked One of these on each, single sheet over the lot, sleeping bag, and I must say, I slept better than in my usual bed at home.
Like I say, only a trial in the garden, but two full nights kip on the trot left me very impressed.
Just be warned, if you have a sloping "wall" in your tent quarters, the higher off the ground you come, the shorter your bedroom effectively becomes, so double check. We got ours in, and push them tight to the bedroom doors, so as not to push the sloping back wall of the bedroom against the outer. Tight fit, but I think we'll be okay.
The high gear alluminium camp bed which is slightly more expensibe is on offer in july for £20. Not sure what they are like as the go site has mixed revirws but they look like a bargain if you can wait a week or so.
We have those camp beds, we use a 10cm simm on top.
we managed to get them on a sale at 15.00 each so we spent a lot on the sims. pure luxury.
The campbeds are heavy but sturdy and okay if you fancy a bit of wet afternoon fun They are really simple to erect and pack up just as quickly. As I said we now use Robens 10cm sims ontop after trying it in the store and were happy to spend the £60 each for them as we could afford it at the time and wanted even more luxury after just using camp beds on their own for a few years.
Just keep an eye out for the offers and you can get them cheaper.Be aware the majority of Go-outdoors sims are not as wide as most so go for another manufacturer. Also look out for the trekking types as they tend to be plastic and sound like you are sleeping on a pack of crisps every time you move. look at outwell, vango etc
