I am after some advise from you experts out there. This will be the first season she whop must be obeyed and I have taken up camping. Although I have done a lot over the years with youth groups and cadets she has finally agreed to give it a try so I have got a large family tent as we are getting too old to crawl into one now.
I have a 2 ring tilley cooker but not sure what gas is best to use or what size cylinder. I have an empty 4kg one but as yet no regulator. Would this be ok for this type of cooker or would I be better with one of the smaller 907, for instance canister.
the 4.5 kilo butane bottle will be fine you will need a regulator and hose if the bottle you have is calor that is ok for uk use can get refill any where in britain if traveling abroad you will have to get a camping gaz bottle make sure its a 907 easly available everywhere you can also use propane ideal for early and late season camping would recommend calor forget unknown named bottles as they are for local use
Unless you're doing huge amounts of cooking the 4.5kg cylinder should be fine - and should be fairly easy to get a refil for if you stick to calor or campinggaz. the larger bottles (around 14kg) are obviously a lot cheaper - and I'd go for these if space isn't a problem. For normal season camping butane should be fine.
Your local camping shop should be able to give specific advise as to whether you can get a regulator suitable for your stove, that will fit the larger bottles or whether it wil only take smaller bottles etc.
welcome to the madhouse i have a 4.5kg butane.only filled it once and got one season out of it. still a bit left on it we use a two ring cooker. most places were i live will fill them.
hi, we r new to this camping game too. we received a cooker for xmas present and it can run on either propane or butane. is there any preference for which to go for?
we only plan on doing summer camping with our young son. does either gas have any advantages over other or is it much of a muchness
