Hi, We're looking for a couple of camping chairs that fold up fairly small and won't break the bank but will also be comfortable for sitting around the campsite on (husband has back pain on occasion). I've spotted the Kampa Tub Chair which looks a bargain but there aren't many reviews online - does anyone have one and would they recommend it? Thanks.
I love the look of moon chairs, but not the pack size and I tried one of the Kampa ones as the are more compact BUT I found they made me sit in too much of a curled up position and it wasn't comfortable for my back at all. Some people love moon chairs and I was disappointed that I couldn't sit in one and walk when I got up, so I would definitely get a chair you have tried out first if you have a bad back.
I bought a Kampa Tub Chair in April, and I have to say so far, so good. I've had two lots of lower back surgery, and so, finding a chair which was supportive and comfortable was a bit of a mission.
The moment I sat in the Kampa I knew it was for me. It's very deeply padded, all the way round, which is excellent for supporting my back. The padding also makes the chair very comfortable and warm...which is great if you're sat out in the evening. I have room to sit back in it and it doesn't leave me sat bolt upright, which I found with a lot of the more structured chairs. It also supports right up under my knees, and is the closest thing to a proper armchair I've found. There's no headrest but that hasn't been a problem for me. I can definitely recommend this chair:)
However, I'm 5'4", so I suspect that if you're taller it may not offer the same level of comfort. It's not the smallest of chairs when folded, so if space is at a premium it may not be for you.
Hope this helps
Sarah x

------------- Junk: stuff we throw away... Stuff: junk we keep...
We have a kind of moon chair at home that originally came from habitat I think (before they went under!). I'd owned two before which have a sort of futon cushion to them when I lived in Canada. I love it!!!
When I went shopping for some 'back saving' chairs a couple of months ago, I tried some out but ended up buying the High Gear kentucky camping chair (two for £40 from Gooutdoors) as it was more comfortable than all the moon type fold away chairs I had tried.. I wanted to love them but they just weren't as comfortable to me..
Chairs are like beds to me. What one person might find comfortable isn't necessarily what another person might. Try them out for yourself but do try those Kentucky loungers are they are more comfortable than they look for a cheapish looking fold away chair.
Great thank you everyone. Think we'll definitely try before we buy but it's good to know there are a few good options out there that aren't too expensive!
I am tempted by this one. I am also 5'4" but my problem is my hip. I need my knees to be as high as my hip or I have to have a foot rest. I think the seat may be a bit high for me. Also, it is quite heavy, I think.
My current favourite chair is a RIO Beach Chair but although it is lightweight and can be carried as a back pack, it is a bit of an awkward shape to carry on a train, which is what I need for a couple of events I am going to. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000AY9S7C/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
