Just wanted to post to say your advice has saved us this holiday. We started off with a double height airbed that on the 1st day was deflated by bedtime, even though we'd arrived at 5pm! We'd only camped with it 4 times, but it's died on us already.
On the advice from here I convinced my other half to purchase SIMs and campbeds - it helped that a camper/camping shop up the road had some set up for us to try out, as he wasn't convinced and wanted to get another airbed. We bought Outwell 7cm depth single beds and 2 steel beds in the Argos sale for £19.99. We've had fab night sleeps ever since.
He's now got tent envy as there's 2 polycotton's pitched nearby (we're the only polyester tent left on site) that look good and it's been a touch chilly these last 2 nights. Still at least no rain or wind.
Anyway - just posting to say thanks and so glad I use this site as the campsite certainly lives up to it's reviews too
well done kaffee we have 6 campbeds and 6 sims the whole family get a good nights kip and warmer too, the uk campsite is a fantastic site for reviews and camping information. best thing we ever did throwing the air-beds in the dustbin - shaun
Good for you! I bought the Argos camp bed for when I go on Cub camps, love it. Although I used a roll mat on mine. Just a shame we don't have space in the car for them.
I much prefer the camp bed and SIM for a good night's sleep when I'm camping alone or with the guides. I also had good advice on this forum the first time in many years I went camping in November. I asked what sort of bedding is warmest and had loads of great posts in response.
If only they'd design a really compact double camp bed without the big ridge up the middle! When we're cold (which is a lot of the time for me!), we like to cuddle up, and the steel bar would get in the way.
I really don't like airbeds. Apart from the deflating thing, they're a pain to move on without bouncing OH about and waking him up, and they really hold the cold! Fortunately I don't go camping with OH in the winter.
Glad you've found your ideal bedding setup! Happy camping and a hearty YAY!!! for the great people who spare time to give good advice here!
Over the years I've been a member on here I have had so much good information. It has saved me from making a lot of mistakes and probably saved me some money as well.
I'd love the option of being able to try a camp bed and SIM but alas just because I'm tall it seems I don't get the option - Camp beds up to 210cm in length seem to be available but the SIM's seem to max-out at 198cm
That said the choice in extra long airbeds is not exactly what one would call amazing
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
